Keeping a changelog for yourself

I keep a plain text file where I note every change I make to systems I run: what, when and why. It takes seconds per entry.

It has paid for itself many times. When something breaks, the first question is always what changed, and the file answers it faster than any dashboard.

It also makes writing the monthly report almost effortless.
